Lying peacefully between lake and mountains, no wonder this special place inspired painters and poets such as William Wordsworth who described Grasmere as ‘The fairest place on Earth’ and who would argue with the great man.

Yet despite its unhurried pace of life, you’ll never be short of something to do in Grasmere: visit the Wordsworth Museum and Dove Cottage; or enjoy visiting our wide variety of shops, selling everything from boots and books to Grasmere’s famous Gingerbread, baked to a secret recipe in the same tiny shop since 1854. The Heaton Cooper Studio displays three generations of this painting family, or visit the prestigious Lakes Artist’s Summer Exhibition in the Village Hall, where the talented Grasmere Players also entertain frequently throughout the year.

If it’s walking you're after Grasmere has the lot, from a gentle stroll around the Lake and over to Loughrigg Tarn, one of the scenic film locations used in the film MISS POTTER. The tarn is situated in the fells between Grasmere & Elterwater and has striking views North West towards the Langdale Pikes. Owned by the National Trust, this is a tarn of outstanding beauty. For the more serious walkers the challenging high fell walks over to the Langdales and the Helvellyn range and all achievable from the front door.

Raise View House is perfectly situated to enjoy all the Lake District has to offer.
